Our experience can assist you in selecting the best materials and colours to both protect and present your art for years to come.
Although we can do funky and cater to the designer trends of the day.
We personally tend to focus on being conservative. We have found this will better keep the presentation of the art timeless. In other words we try to get what looks good today will also look good 100 years from today.
We have a collection of contemporary wood and metal moulding samples, both regular and float styles and carry a modest selection of these in stock.
If what we have in stock does not meet your needs we always can custom order.
We custom cut metal (aluminium), wood and composite mouldings and make the frames just the right size to suit your art!
We are able to provide
Mounting Materials meet or exceed Conservation or Archive Standards
We carry in stock a good selection of both conservation and archival mat boards.
Although we can still hand cut the matts we do have the latest CMC technology ( Computerized Mat Cutter ) that allows infinite possibilities.
We carry in stock 4 types of 2mm picture frame glass
We also offer for poster art a lighter option of lamination with a matt finish.
We do not carry plex-i-glas but can special order if requested
We are not limited to complete new custom framing. We also can provide just the custom made frame or custom cut mats, glass or backing as needed. We also do repairs, fix broken frames, replace glass, cut new mats etc..etc..........

Iona and I moved to Nelson in 1981 and opened our frame shop in the Chahko-Mika Mall, December of 1983.
Our business soon added considerable art work and in 1984 we changed our name to Hummingbird Gallery to reflect that.
In 1989 we moved to a larger space in downtown Nelson in the 500 Block Vernon Street and remained there for the next 10 years.
In 2000 we completed our shop in the rear of our home and downsized. Our focus shifted back to custom picture framing but as our customers knew us by our company name we decided to keep it.
In 2007 due to family issues we put the framing business on the back burner. Those issues are now all resolved so we're back to offer our services and expertise once again to Nelson and the Kootenays.
Even though we no longer have our brick and mortar gallery we still have framed and unframed art available for sale. Our previous website had a Gallery but is currently under going a complete redesign and rebuild.
Look for our new and improved online Gallery in the future.
